Step by Step process for Drop Box in India :

1) Fill DS-160; If you have spouse(Fill another DS-160)

DS 160 website : https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/default.aspx

Select : Location, Country. (Ex : Hyd, India )

2) Create the account/ Register in this US Consulate Website : 

         https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?language=English&country=India

    Input your DS-160 details there.

     If spouse joining with you for H4(Add her DS-160 details along with you)

3) Next you need to answer all the questions in the 2nd step(as shown below)

These below questions will determine your eligibility criteria for DropBox.

• I have a previous U.S. visa in the same class as the visa for which I wish to apply
• My most recent visa was issued in India
• I received my visa after January 1, 2008
• My prior visa is not annotated “Clearance Received” or “Department Authorization”.
• My most recent visa (in the same class for which I am applying) was issued on or after my 14th birthday
• I have no refusals for a visa in any class after my most recent visa issuance
• If I am applying for an H or L (individual) or R visa, my prior visa in the same class is still valid or expired within the last 12 months.

Those are the questions to decide your eligibility for dropbox. Even if you change employer, you are still eligible for Dropbox. That clause is removed.

If you answered YES to all these questions, you are eligible for dropbox

4) If you are eligible, At last page, you will get the dropbox letter - PDF.

5) Get the MRV Receipt number PDF + Pay the Visa fee in Axis Bank or HDFC Bank in India.

6) No need to book any visa interview slots as you quality for Drop Box.

7) You can directly go to the US Consulate

(If in Hyderabad, No need to stand in any line, Go directly to the Front of the Line & inform the security guard or someone that you came for the Drop Box)

9) Carry original documents + passport.(Do not submit Original copies except your passport to them)

10) Carry copies of the documents in case if they need, you can submit copies.

11) Get 2 copies of Drop Box letter (On one letter - they will put a stamp saying they received those documents)

12) After submitting docs, after few(i believe 1-5) days, for few cases, if they require, they might call you again for fingerprints(might happen for few people)

Documents to carry H1B : Just like whatever you carry for Visa Interview(just for verification), Like i said take copies too.

Mostly you will submit below documents

DS-160

Dropbox confirmation letter

2 Passport photos

H1B approval(i-797) photocopy

Documents to Carry for H4 :

If H4 alone going for Visa Interview,

Mostly you will submit below documents,

DS-160

Dropbox confirmation letter 

2 Passport photos

H1B approval(i-797) photocopy.(of your spouse)

Mostly you will get passport within a week.
